P&C President Update

FAMILY FUN DAY

The Family Fun Day was a great success, with a lot of people coming along and enjoying themselves, despite the grey skies. Everybody war very excited about and very impressed with the new school hall – comments were extremely positive.

The Family Fun Day was a also chance for parents and teachers to meet one another – I personally met many other parents and teachers that helped out with the sausage sizzle.

In addition, the day was a great fund-raising success. The final numbers aren’t in yet, but it looks like about $4,000 dollars was raised. That’s a lot of money towards our target of another four interactive whiteboards before the beginning of next year!

The P&C is especially grateful for the great efforts of Melanie Cocca (for organising the sausage sizzle), and the usual outstanding effort of Nicole  Lenartowicz, in organising the day overall. Well done, Melanie and Nicole! Other big efforts from Tony, Therese, Isla and Murray, Primrose, Kate, Linda, Ellie, Sonja and countless others. Thanks to all.

The family fun day was also the first time we used the new coffee machine for fund-raising, and it proved to be extremely popular.

OTHER RECENT P&C ACTIVITIES

The Father’s Day stall and activities were very popular also, and money raised through the Chocolate and healthy Snacks drive is still coming in.

CANTEEN

Unfortunately, getting enough volunteers to run the canteen has been a real headache for the canteen committee. The P&C is having to rethink its approach to this problem, as no-one wants to have to close the canteen on yet another day each week. If you are able to help out, please contact Linda Meynes, by contacting the school.

UNIFORM SHOP

The uniform shop is open Wed 2.45 to 3.15, and Friday 8.30 to 9.00. Prices are being reviewed, and new suppliers are being sourced to help us provide good quality uniform clothing, at the most affordable prices. Please have a look at the next P&C report for some expected changes.

INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARDS

At its meeting on Monday 13 September, the P&C treasurer’s report showed that we now have enough money in reserve to afford the $32,000 needed to purchase the last four interactive whiteboards needed to make sure each classroom at WPS has its own. At the next meeting on 18 October at 7pm at the library, the P&C will be asked to decide whether to make the purchase. This is a very important decision, and I urge parents to come along to the meeting and participate in the discussion.

BECOME INVOLVED IN THE P&C!

Meetings of the WPS P&C are held each month, currently the third Monday of the month in the school library. The meeting runs from 7pm and we all get the chance to hear about developments at the school from the principal, Mr Cosier. We also talk about fund-raising, canteen, landscaping and the uniform shop.

Coming along to P&C meetings is a great way for you to get more involved in your children’s school and have a say in what happens here. Getting involved also means you get to meet other parents, and join in the activities that the P&C runs. I always find these activities (like stalls and barbecues) a lot of fun, and I hope you can too.

The P&C always welcomes new parents.
